CONTRAILS
Im Juli 1949 durchpflügte das erste Düsenflugzeug mit einem weißen Schweif den scheinbar grenzenlosen Luftraum. Es war der Anfang an dem der natürliche Wolkenhimmel eine vollkommen neue Wolkenspezies bekam. Künstliche Wolken sogenannte Kondensstreifen konkurrierten von nun an mit den Natürlichen. 70 Jahre später gehören sie zum festen Bestandteil unserer alltäglichen Wolkenbilder. Manchmal schön und witzig anzusehen, doch katastrophal in ihrer Wirkung. Laut einer Studie ist das Aufkommen der künstlichen Wolkenbildung heute so groß, dass sie über Zentraleuropa zehn Prozent des Himmels bedecken. Diese Tatsache liefert leider einen erheblichen Beitrag zum Treibhauseffekt, der unter anderem mitverantwortlich ist für unseren dramatischen Klimawandel.
In July 1949, the first jet plane with a white tail ploughed through the seemingly limitless airspace. It was the beginning when the natural cloud sky got a completely new cloud species. Artificial clouds, so-called contrails, competed from now on with natural clouds. 70 years later they belong to the firm component of our everyday cloud pictures. Sometimes beautiful and funny to look at, but catastrophic in their effect. According to one study, the emergence of artificial clouds is so great today that they cover ten percent of the sky above Central Europe. Unfortunately, this makes a considerable contribution to the greenhouse effect, which is partly responsible for our dramatic climate change.
